Meet Julie

Julie Nolan

Puppy and Dog Trainer

Kia ora koutou

My name is Julie and after 25 years of working in the arts as an Artistic Director (Red Leap Theatre), I have undertaken an exciting career change - my life has literally gone to the dogs!

In 2022 I completed the Certificate in Canine Behaviour and Training at Unitec and feel so lucky to have been mentored by Samantha at Howlistic Help to become a certified dog trainer.

The change happened for me when Riley Girl entered my family's life. A classic lockdown fur baby - we saw her photo on the SPCA website and fell in love. We remain in love but she was what we call "a lot of dog", a big, strong, bouncy American Bulldog cross with no manners. None!

We contacted Samantha and she changed everything for us and I became fascinated with the philosophy, practice and science of positive reinforcement dog training.

I love dogs. I look into their eyes and I'm hooked. I'm particularly fond of rescue dogs. I'm also pretty fond of humans and am inspired to help dogs and humans have harmonious relationships and improve the quality of their lives together.

It's important for me to get well trained and qualified so I can be the best dog trainer I can be and make positive changes for animals two legged and four. I have a love of learning and know the wonderful world of dogs will be my passion for many years to come.

I am a local on the Devonport Peninsula with my partner and two teenage sons and am loving spending more time in my community.
